Session Prep Guide

Welcome! I’m so excited to photograph your family. This page is your all-in-one guide to help the day feel easy, fun, and stress-free. Skim the checklists, peek at the outfit tips, and text me anytime if you’re unsure about something.

What to Expect
    •    Sessions are fully guided and posed. I’ll direct you every step of the way.
     •    Focus on connection. Snuggles, hugs, hand-holds, and smiles. Trust the process!
     •    Candid > perfect. I’ll capture connection, giggles, and all the in-between moments you’ll treasure.

The Week Before
    •    Outfits planned & tried on.
    •    Comfort first (no scratchy seams or tight shoes).
    •    Steam/iron and remove tags/strings.
    •    Backup items ready. Extra tights, bow, hair gel, wipes, tiny comb.
    •    Haircuts: If needed, schedule 5–7 days before so it looks natural.
    •    Naps: Keep nap routines consistent; avoid introducing brand-new schedules.
    •    Set expectations: Tell kids you’re going to “play pictures” with Holly and it will be quick and fun.

Day-Of Checklist
    •    Full bellies, happy hearts. Light, non-messy snack before arrival (think cheese stick, crackers).
    •    Bring a small bag: Water, tissues/wipes, hair brush, lip balm, mini snacks, stain stick, bribe treat (M&M’s > lollipops).
    •    Arrive early (5–10 min). A calm start beats rushing.
    •    Please empty pockets. I will have a designated spot for these items.
    •    Let me lead. I’ll handle posing and silly prompts. You just love on your people.

What to Wear (Easy Formula)
    •    Start with one outfit you love (usually a parent). Build everyone else around it.
    •    Coordinate, don’t match. Mix textures (denim, knits, lace) and 2–3 tones.
    •    Avoid: loud logos, neon, tiny stripes (moire/visual buzzing), baseball caps.
    •    Shoes matter. Clean shoes or barefoot for littles.
    •    Hands & nails. Neutral polish or clean nails photograph best.

Palette Ideas (popular sets)
    •    Greenhouse / Fall: warm neutrals, olive, rust, cream, denim, mustard, cocoa.
    •    Pumpkin Truck: cream, camel, deep green, cinnamon, cranberry.
    •    Greenhouse / christmas: black, cream, deep red, forest, metallic accents (subtle), cozy knits.

Special Notes by Age

Babies (3–12 months)
    •    A snug onesie under outfits helps keep diapers hidden.
    •    Pack a simple solid romper; busy patterns can overwhelm tiny features.
    •    If bottle-fed, bring an extra bottle.

Toddlers (1–3 years)
    •    Expect movement—perfect! We’ll play with prompts, “run to mom,” and “tickle monster.”
    •    Bring their favorite stuffy (we can use it then hide it).

Big Kids (4–10 years)
    •    Give them a “helper job” (hold the blanket, find the twinkle lights).
    •    Promise a simple treat after the session, not during.

Teens
    •    Let them help choose outfits.
    •    I'll pose them in flattering, natural ways without forcing smiles.

Weather, Illness & Reschedules
    •    Ohio weather happens. For wind/rain, we may shift time or move to a covered/studio set. Safety and comfort come first.
    •    Sick kiddo? Please reschedule—sniffles show and they won’t feel their best. Just message me; I keep a few back-up slots.
    •    After-Dark Sessions: It’s cooler; bring a warm layer and tights/socks for littles between shots.

Studio Etiquette & Safety
    •    Please refrain children from props/vehicles until I'm ready and secure the area.
    •    No food dyed treats, markers, or slime near sets.
    •    Glass-frame eyewear can glare; consider an anti-glare pair or quick lens pop-out if comfortable.
    •    Furry friends are welcome if pre-arranged. Please keep them on a leash and bring waste bags.

Hair, Makeup & Grooming
    •    Hair: Soft curls, braids, or simple sleek styles hold up best. Bring a brush + light hold spray.
    •    Makeup: Natural with defined lashes. Powder for shine.
    •    Beards: Trim edges day before; bring a lint roller for dark shirts.
    •    Glasses: Clean lenses; if you have transition lenses, bring a non-transition pair if possible.

Quick Posing Tips (for grown-ups)
    •    Hands: Lightly touch (cheek, shoulder, waist), hold kids close, or stack hands around a face for connection.
    •    Chins: Slight forward and down (micro-movement).
    •    Shoulders: Drop and relax. Breathe.

After Your Session

    •    I carefully cull and create your preview gallery.
    •    You'll receive your preview gallery where you'll choose your favorites. (This is where you can purchase extras if you wish!)
    •    Once favorites are selected and final, I edit them with my signature style.
    •    Your final finished gallery is then delivered with easy download instructions.
    •    You'll have access to my pro lab for gorgeous prints, canvases, and gifts.

Common Qs

What if my child doesn’t smile?
Totally fine—curious looks and snuggles are priceless. Sometimes we have to soak in natural moments!

Can we include grandparents or extended family?
This does require my top package, if you wish to change that, please tell me ahead so I can plan timing/posing.

Can I bring props?
Small, meaningful items are welcome. Please skip large decor unless pre-approved.

Final, Fast Checklist
    •    Outfits cleaned/steamed + backups
    •    Snacks + water + wipes
    •    Hair brushed, faces clean, nails tidy
    •    Arrive 5–10 minutes early
    •    Breathe—have fun—I’ll guide everything!
